Appi was the Noise Project of André Aspelmeier from late 1985 thru mid 1988, self-releasing a 7" EP "Mahnfaktor Katharsis" in October 1986 and the Album "Wie ich dir, SoDoMie" in April 1988 as well as some K7 and compilation releases on various international underground noise-labels.
"Vacutias Horribilis" is a posthumous compilation, initiated by Tristan Koreya/Nostalgie de la Boue in 2023 featuring a selection of Appi-tracks showing both, the diversity of musical expression and aesthetic development as this project evolved, including the addition of new techniques and skills over time.
On a personal side, this life-phase was characterized by the maybe usual and in any way challenging adolescent search for identity, a role in life, what to do for a living and how to pay the greedy landlord and fill the always empty fridge. And how to pay for the new synth or tape recorder, above all.
A certain level of insecurity, angst and even depression undeniably were part of this process and are well mirrored in many of the tracks on this compilation. Technological upgrades (from first primitive sampling keyboard through Atari ST + Steinberg 24-track sequencer to sampling and synth modules, digital effects) and slowly growing psychological and personal stability step by step made the music take an entirely different turn after the release of the Appi album in April 88, leading up to later projects like Wrag Naroda, Subsonic Noise Logic, Gradient Communication, GradCom, incite/, THDN over the years.
Despite all the artistic and technical refinement introduced into my music over all the years and projects, the ultimate raw and authentic direct-to-tape noise energy of the Appi project always stood out and was never matched after.
No mastering was added to the original recordings.
